Description

This is the rest of the ruins, of Urquhart Castle, from the top of the Tower House (my last post). The large water side ruin, on the left with windows, was the Great Hall and kitchen plus chambers on the second floor. The entrance was on the right, half way between where I am standing and the blue flag in the background. There was a dry moat and a drawbridge at the entrance and a small chapel inside the gates. The ruins, near the blue flag, were called the Upper Bailey and was a barracks with heavy defensive walls and tall turrets. Almost everything else was defensive walls. There was a period of time when no one was responsible for the property and it was common for locals to help themselves to stones from the ruins. Info from the Historic Scotland guide. 1995 photos scanned. Zoom will help. Thanks for stopping by my gallery, taking a look and for all your previous favs and comments. They are very much appreciated. Dana

Deep lush color, and stunning DOF, clarity and texture in this sterling shot, Dana. And I assume that's the storied Loch Ness in the background.
