Description

This building was part of the soccer stadium built in 1912 and inaugurated on May 13, 1913 when Botafoga beat Flamengo 1-0. The stadium had a maximum seating capacity of 20,000 and was used until the 1970s and demolished in 1977. Apparently this was an entrance for the stadium. It looks to me as if it is being restored. In any case, its neo-colonial style is beautiful and as I was taking pictures I was wondering what Tara would have done with this. This picture was taken on 18 June 2011, Sig...

Wow! What a marvellous bit of architecture! There's enough detail to keep me busy for a good long time. The place where the red stair meets the cream ... whatever it's called ... it looks like crown molding. Oh man. The shapes there are wonderful. And the beautiful glass paned doors ... 56 lights each? Wow. Amazing. The arches and columns, the overhanging roof, the gables (or whatever they're called there), tile, stone, stucco, terra cotta, glass, wood ... it's a feast! You'd never get me out of there. Thank you for this, my dear! It's wonderful!
