Description
If you travel and you are lucky eventually you will find the place. It’s a spot with a welcoming atmosphere where other travelers gather, and the food is cheap and good. Superman’s was such a place. It was located just up the Gang from the Beta Losmen and run by a woman everyone called Mama. Now Mama was not your average indifferent restaurateur. She was known to offer a free meal to an indigent traveler and looked upon her regulars as her children.
One of the hazards of traveling in foreign lands is intestinal discomfort. It is known by many names. It can take the name of individuals resulting in Montezuma’s Revenge. It can be named after a place such as Delhi Belly. It can even take on political overtones, hence The Trotskies. Mama was always careful to boil any water used in the preparation of her food. She even boiled the water she used in her ice cubes.
One look at the menu will tell you why Superman’s was such a popular place. The currency of Indonesia is known as the Rupiah. In 1978 the exchange rate was 400 Rupiah to the dollar. The prices on the menu are in Rupiah, which means a plate of her delicious fired noodles cost about thirty-eight cents, a cheese omelet, fifty cents. And there were jaffles for homesick Australians.

I love cheese omlettes, but the guac looks good, too. Hmmmmm ... I bet it's all delicious! It sounds like the food comes with a side of loving care. The best kind of meal! :)
