Epsilon Eridani IX: Hades
'Hades' is one of those cold, cold worlds on the edge of a solar system where most of the atmosphere condenses out as snow shortly after sunset and boils back into gas in the morning.
This image was inspired by an imagining of Pluto's surface I saw in a news article, you can also see it on Pluto's Wikipedia page. Since I was 'inspired by' and got well away from the facts I decided to set the image elsewhere.
I've been spending my 'free' or personal artwork time trying to get comfortable and more proficient in Vue; because this year I'm hoping to enter their big Environment Contest. If I can come up with something I feel is worthy.
Meanwhile we have "Hades Sunrise" for your consideration. This image was initially put together and rendered in Vue 9.5i and rendered overnight at 2400x900 pixels.
While I had always planned to paint some stars into the sky in post, once I had the completed render in hand I decided to do a complete sky replacement. This also inspired me to use some matte painting techniques to add texture to the landscape. All of the fog is hand painted as well.
