Description

Hi - just a bit of fun and research. "Mars" was rendered in Vue 9i using the spherical procedural terrain to define the entire planet using very high resolution texture maps obtained from: http://planetpixelemporium.com I did use some procedural layers with the texture maps, although I don't think it shows much in the final image. I made use of Vue 9i's planetary projection mapping to apply the texture and to drive the function that defined the altitude of the procedural planetary terrain. So, theoretically, one could zoom in very close indeed to the surface and it should hold up. Atmosphere was based on DAX Pandhi's 'Distant Frontier' set with some extensive tweaking. I added the hand painted star-field and lens flare in Photoshop and trimmed the image somewhat. There was some slight exposure and levels adjustment in post as well. Hope you enjoy and as always your constructive comments and critique are appreciated. Feel free to post any questions and I'll try to answer in comments or you can send me a sitemail here at Rendo. Thanks.

This is excellent! I think it's simplicity and the sense of vastness makes it. It reminds me of a movie poster for a film I saw ages ago! you are making me want to get vue1

I have to say that this reminds me of 2001 which I think is still a classic and will for all time be a religious experience for me.. and I'm not religious. Nicely done!!

I really love the different things you can do with Vue, it seems to only be limited by our imaginations and this is just the most lovely imagining!

this makes a very professional looking poster. the planet works well, but what's most striking is the bold composition.
