Brad Pitt and I share the exact same birthday (month, day, year) outside of that, our stories diverge considerably. Mr. Pitt went on to become an internationally famous superstar, while I have led the much more interesting life of the starving artist. I come from a long line of storytellers (whose gift for gab stretches back through the mists of time to our native Ireland) and professional malcontents who were seemingly born to create something in the arts, be it music, writing, sculpture, painting, or photography. I started writing at age 12 with a screenplay with my cousin Ryan about a planet where everyone looked like Elton John entitled "Don't I Know You?" More screenplays followed, several of which received epic Super-8 production with budgets that sometimes ran up to $10. A few even had sound!  More writing followed: songs, poems, short stories, numerous unfinished novels, etc.. Somewhere in there was an attempt at being a rock star...
Still living at home, at age 22, my father dropped an elderly Nikromatt 35-mm film camera into my lap, in the hopes that I would "make a go of it" as a photojournalist. That didn't happen, but I did develop an abiding love of photography that along with writing and archival work have been among the chief passions of my life. When it comes to my photography, I try to be as creative as possible while at the same time striving for a documentary/archival quality. The only set rules I adhere to, when it comes to making pictures are: 1.) Try not to make the picture blurry, and 2.) Don't drop the camera.

There was a movie, The Day the Earth Caught Fire: one of those obscure, classic science fiction movies that no one ever saw. The thing about it is the fact that it was scientifically accurate right down to really insignificant details concerning both meteorology and human psychology. It's also one of the few science fiction movies to make minimal use of special effect--there were almost no special effects in that movie. Unfortunately, it was also a rather boring movie by today's standards. Anyway, I bring that up because...Chicago is experiencing the sort of weather featured in that movie (minus the shifting tides and odd fog banks--both due to polar ice melt) and I occasionally expect to see people looking up at the sky, realizing that we're doomed to simmer, bake, and then roast, and since we don't have a space program, we're frakked because we can't go anywhere cooler: of course, all of this occurs while the 2% Club (and we all know who they are) decide that a carbon dioxide blanket is just the thing to protect us from the sun's merciless rays, so they buy more SUVs and leave them running, thus exhausting fossil fuel reserves and precipitating a series of Fuel Wars that blow us all to kingdom come just before we cook to death. Hmmm...now there is a movie idea, which makes me wonder what Roland Emmerich is doing these days. Anyway, now that I've rambled on, on, and on some more, I'll say that I really like this picture and I distinctly remember that day. I love the details in this shot. The naked trees and the green bridge work together perfectly.

Well done Corey. Both photo and words. And I ain't ever satisfied. My idea of a great add-on here..., if you could retake this exact image/pov in the sweltering heat of August and let half the photo be winter and the other half be summer. Just a thought:)

Fortunately, it's not that hot where I am. I've lived where it IS that hot and humid and it's no fun. I can see why this winter scene would be so appealing. Your title makes me want to run my finger down the side and lick it off, but that's just me. lol

I can empathise absolutely. I have no internal thermostat and can't stand extremes. If it gets to 80 here I've had it. 95 is outrageous.

Beautiful composition Corey. Haven't seen any snow in a long time. Forgot how nice it is.

I'm loving any snow shot I see these days. We've had 2 months with highs mostly in the triple digits and August will be another. The humidity hasn't been too bad though, which helps. Though I'd take some humidity, if it brought with it some rain. Lovely image! I like the curves of the river and branches, and the lines and curves of the bridge. Beautiful colors and light.
