Description
Prambanan is a ninth century Hindu temple compound in Central Java, Indonesia, dedicated to the Trimurti (Three Forms), the Hindu trinity consisting of God the Creator (Brahma), God the Sustainer (Vishnu) and God the Destroyer (Shiva). The temple complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, contains the largest Hindu temple in Indonesia. In addition to its six main temples, Prambanan once contained hundreds of smaller temples. Most of these were dismantled for souvenirs by the Dutch colonialists or used as building materials by the local Javanese. Restoration of these monuments has been going on since the 1990s.
