Description
Prambanan was abandoned by its builders around the year 1,000 when the royal court moved to East Java. Over the intervening 1,000 years the complex suffered vandalism, theft and earthquake damage. When archeologists began their restoration work they discovered a number of very fine carvings and statues. From clockwise are three examples. At the top is an image of Krishna. The elephant god Ganesh is at the lower right and a rain spout is seen at lower left.
Wherever I went I saw youth, human and animal. One day I was sharing a trishaw with another westerner and commented on the number of young I had seen. He laughed and said, "Yes, the entire country is pregnant." Prambanan was no different. Children were everywhere and whenever they saw a camera they would pose for a picture.

... and those children are always happy and smiling - almost unspoiled/untouched by Western Countries habits - let's hope, they can stay that way on their lovely Islands ... I also have a little brass statue of 'Ganesha' - Lord of Success or God of Wisdom, thanks for the refresher course Mark, BB

I love pictures of children. Even when they are posing, they get distracted and show such natural expressions. I like the two girls in the front. The one on the left, seems not totally comfortable, with curled toes and her hand on her friends arm. Her friend is clearly distracted. You are being stared at from under the brows of the girl behind them. The carvings are beautiful! It sends chills up my spin to think of discovering something like this. Pulling away vines, seeing such beauty, and knowing that it hasn't been seen by anyone in a very long time. Excellent images and information!
