Description

This is a partial view of a mansion that had belonged to Laurinda Santos Lobo, one of Rio's leading socialites. After the mansion burned down, the city reinforced the gutted shell and installed all manner of ramps and catwalks. This vantage point provides a 270 degree of Rio, including Centro, Baia de Guanabara, and Sugarloaf. The ruin is located adjacent to the Museu Chacara do Ceu, the former mansion of French-born patron and industrialist Raymondo Ottoni de Castro Mayo. The museum houses a mall collection of modern art. How cool that they preserved the building even after it burned! If it were here, of course they would have torn it down. I bet that's a fascinating place. And no people! It looks like you had the place to yourself (although I bet that isn't true) and this shot has a wonderful, moody vibe to it. Beautiful work!
