Description

a very long time ago I went on a shoot with a dear friend Chris Patterson......Chris's expertise lay in large format commercial photography and mine related to the body...we decided to get together with a very powerful male figure and an old coal mine and sheets upon sheets of 4 x 5 inch film....this image looks amazing in colour as well but I wanted to break it down to it's bare forms with this mono look.... thanks Chris for that day, it was great. another from the vault my friend cheers the photo guy

looks stunning in B&W Carl, as the eye appreciates the skin and muscle texture straight away rather than being distracted by colour, it is amaing how the cloth and metal textures also seem emphasised by the B&W treatment, at least to me

The strength of the image is very well composited. I'm a personal fan of black and white anyway. In my opinion, black and white cannot be beat when photographing the human figure.

This is amazing in B/W... the shadowing enhances the model without taking away from the overall image. seth

It might sound strange, but an image in monochrome can very often look much better than in a color version... No distraction by the colors? I don't know, but it somehow puts together an image... This shot is amazing, well balanced and composed, and with a very good contrast between the crisp foreground and the blurry background, it adds to this image such a stunning depth. More jewels from you treasure chest, please... :D Vashek

What's that, you're going to spend the whole of next week scanning in old images, excellent news. Only kidding mate, but I would love seeing the results if you did! What can I say, stunning image! The contrast between the dull metal of the chain and hook and his gleaming upper torso is wonderful! Superb image!

Outstanding shot, Carl this is one case where it would lose so much in colour

Great image, love the use of contrast with light and shadow to really bring out the detail and definition. Great model as well, all of his work paid off, too.

For me, B&W photography was always the main draw, it really makes the light, textures and form just shine. This is gorgeous, so full of light and shadow, wonderful textures, wow.

Ho ho, Carl! Vashek and Martin ( and others) said it all. This model is exceptionnally beautiful. 6'4"! wow , a dream ! :o))) I too was striken by the contrast betweem the glowing skin and the rough material all around. You are so good at this , Shadow boy! Thanks for sharing. Cheers Odile

I think this would lose some of it's raw power in color, to be honest. (but probably none of it's Rawr! power). The contrast lends a great deal of strength to it.

Wow, powerful stuff! Think the ladies may linger over this one! Kind of a shame the rope loops out of shot but can understand why you wanted a tight crop. A lesson to me in how to use B&W - thank you.

I have a problem with this.....have you been taking photos of my stomach again with out my knowledge. ;) OK well maybe not! Great shot. I can see what Tom means about the rope, but I reckon you did the right thing going with this crop.
