Description

today I went to Geoff Woods's humble abode and after two cups of tea and an afternoon pouring over one tiny portion of his incredible archive of exquisite large format landscape images......he ever so kindly sent me home with his film scanner so I could dust of some of my old stuff to share....Thanks man, you are the salt of the earth... this one's for you (even though you don't drink!) I created this image for fun as I had not shot alcohol before....one large softbox and a small key spot and a small triangular reflector behind the shot glass to light it up shot on 4 x 5 inch ektachrome I hope you are safe and well cheers Dr Carl

Traditional, raw and quite masculine presentation of this subject matter - I was just thinking how the opposite scene settings would look when it comes to whisky? Pink, polished and shiny? Probably not so good, lol... You have chosen the right way, Carl. The soft lighting is exquisite, and this still life is so well composed, with all those wonderful worn surfaces! Vashek

Wow, thanks to Geoff for letting you borrow that scanner! I am entranced by your photography and this is such a nice piece, great shadows in it and the whiskey comes front and center!

The lighting of this shot is just totally stunning Carl! And that's one hell of a piston on the upper left too! The lighting has just accentuated every surface and brought out all the textures. I could spend hours examining this! Martin

Beautiful composition and lighting, wow. I admit, color really makes this work; I love all the golden browns, from the whiskey to wood to rust.
