Description
Captured 7/4/11, early in the morning, directly across the street from the courts building, within walking distance of my petulant place.
ZOOM worthy.
If you look closely, you'll find the padlock sitting demurely in the middle amidst all that paraphernalia.
I have no idea what purpose the nitrogen tank serves; it's been sitting there near the curb for years already, adjacent to a large metal utilities box of some sort. This setup the only one of its kind that I've seen in my city and neigboring communities. Maybe someone out there in RR has the answer as to its reason for being.
Cheerio, thankx for clicking on, and for any and all favs and complimentary comments.

I have no explanation for its presence, Harry; but I'm sure it's something to do with whatever is in the utilities box. I expect they change it out periodically when you're not looking. You might call the city and ask them, but at least being nitrogen it's not flammable like a tank of oxygen would be. The biggest worry from something like that is getting knocked over and having the top knocked off, which could send it careening madly through the neighborhood. Well spotted to find that padlock in the middle of all the regulator apparatus...I can't see how it's actually protecting anything, it looks like it's just attached, but I'm sure there's more to it than that! Great shot!

It is well attached to the box but goodness knows what it would be for because if there was a fire no one would have the key to unlock the padlock if it is a fire extinguisher. Well spotted.

Cool capture Harry, and I too have no idea what purpose it serves and only hope they don't lose that key ;)

Having no opinion on the question, I will be careful to answer ... but the directions on the bottle of gas suggest that gas can explode ... so it's not dangerous. I do not think anyone is in the casing near to breathe the gas ... that seems to be used either in molecular gastronomy (yuck!) Is to give some push something through against a beautiful ... dive on this photo ...(smiles)

Seems not to be dangerous, I read "non flammable gas". Excellent shot, fantastic details.

Interesting find, I would have no clue why it would be there.

Interesting find here Harry .. check this out! http://gothamist.com/2008/01/31/nitrogen_tanks.php Apparently Verizon uses the tanks to pump nitrogen gas into the phone lines to keep them dry. We contacted Verizon to put an end to this mystery once and for all, but the gentleman manning the media relations phone was uninformed. I'm going to read the complete article now.

Thank you dear tizjezzme, for going to the trouble of finding the purpose of the nitrogen tank. I'll have to check out that link for further information.
