Description

In May, I photographed the caterpillars on the Euonymus. At the moment, a lot of butterflies from these caterpillars(the Ermine moth) are flying around. Here two shots, where the moth is on the Solidago. I have a few more shots of this butterfly, which is very small. From Wikepedia : The family Yponomeutidae are known as the ermine moths, with several hundred species, most of them in the tropics. The larvae tend to form communal webs, and some are minor pests in agriculture, forestry, and horticulture. Some of the adults are very attractive. Adult moths are minor pollinators. In Dutch: Stippelmot. Thank you very much for viewing, and for your lovely comments on my earlier upload. Wishing you a very nice day further.

Yikes - this gives me the creeps.... Wonderful capture though! I love the Dutch name - Stippelmot - It is so discriptive! Dotted moth!

Very cool capture Mies. A group this big could be bad news for the tree they are feeding on. They can leave it stripped bare of leaves

AARGGH! This takes me back to when I was 5 and I had to walk to school past several Euonymus hedges all infested with these. Although I have always loved all creatures, something about these communes freaked me out and I used to cross the road to avoid going too close. Your superb shot brought all that back over 60+ years!!

This is a great capture Mies and wonderful inserts of the moths. We have something similar in the US and we call them 'tent caterpillars' because of the size and shape of their webs. Dana
