Hi, I'm Marilyn. Ă‚Â I've been posting here on RR for a few years now and thought it was time to update my profile. Ă‚Â It's been wonderful learning so much from the amazingly talented people here. Ă‚Â I've had the chance to meet many in person and some have become great and good friends. Ă‚Â Starting with a Kodak Brownie camera when I was about 7 or 8, moving up to Instamatics, Polaroids, then the Pentax K1000 that really got me on the way, I've been looking at the world thru a lens for a long time. Ă‚Â Got the bug honestly; my dad was a photographer and gave me the gene!! Ă‚Â Digital changed the world and I jumped in with both feet. Ă‚Â You would've gone thru 100's of rolls of film in one day the way we can shoot and delete all day long. Ă‚Â Progess...it can be awesome sometimes.
At any rate, RR rocks, the talent is over the top and I'm just gonna keep on shooting!!
Thanks for looking and keep those cameras rollin'!!
peace.....marilyn

back to the difficult act of choosing 'representative' samples from your bursting gallery. Well, you know what I feel, from a slew of emails; but I want to sit with a few examples here. This one was a revelation to me, because while I've seen these green mossy rocks (& exposed roots, maybe) in Wisconsin & Michigan, etc, I've never seen them this big. With the dappled sunlight, they DO look like dinosaurs or dinosaur eggs; and they make the place look primeval...The red of the forest floor & the trees, and the strange shapes of the mossy protuberances make this look like a scene from the week after Creation (at least a Creation in which the earth shows up pretty fast, lol), or as if Manna fell on Yosemite instead of the Sinai. (Picture thousands of ancient Hebrews scratching their heads, thinking, "uh---god??? Like, where's our food??? It's where??? Yo-sem---where did you say???") The shadow about 2/3 of the way up the shot is the defining "anchor" for me, between land & sky. A fine composition, giving cohesion to an unruly bunch of "stuff"---which looks like a bunch of primordial animals slouched over for a morning nap. Beauty & strangeness together, and that newness that you achieve as only handful of people do, like we're seeing this place for the time in history. Fine work, Marilyn!
