Hi, I'm Marilyn. Ă‚Â I've been posting here on RR for a few years now and thought it was time to update my profile. Ă‚Â It's been wonderful learning so much from the amazingly talented people here. Ă‚Â I've had the chance to meet many in person and some have become great and good friends. Ă‚Â Starting with a Kodak Brownie camera when I was about 7 or 8, moving up to Instamatics, Polaroids, then the Pentax K1000 that really got me on the way, I've been looking at the world thru a lens for a long time. Ă‚Â Got the bug honestly; my dad was a photographer and gave me the gene!! Ă‚Â Digital changed the world and I jumped in with both feet. Ă‚Â You would've gone thru 100's of rolls of film in one day the way we can shoot and delete all day long. Ă‚Â Progess...it can be awesome sometimes.
At any rate, RR rocks, the talent is over the top and I'm just gonna keep on shooting!!
Thanks for looking and keep those cameras rollin'!!
peace.....marilyn

Awesome! I watched some surfers on my recent beach holiday but did not have a cool pier to stand on and take pics! I made sure I enjoyed the "scene" though!!!

A regular footer cranking a backside turn. Notice he is looking up at the crest of the wave "reading" it to predict its shape and what his best position and maneuver will be.

Very good capture

WOW! This is one of those really amazing shots I like so much! You're right, in a way, surfing and dancing have a lot in common...nah, they're not the same thing, but they have all of that fun stuff like footwork and directional changes, and it always looks so impressive when somebody does it right! This is such a cool shot, and yeah, I agree...this is a Marilyn Speacialty shot. Your'e so good at these!

Fantastic capture! (Are YOU surfing? It looks like you're right down there in the water!)

since I have to stop here for now, I couldn't leave your gallery without doing a surf shot. (And btw, how come you mention Andrew as the guy who knows the surf terms, but not me? HA! You think some pale, short city guy who can barely stand up after photographing geese wouldn't know the latest surf-lingo??? I surfed Lake Michigan, lady! I stood on a piece of cardboard, I rode a 3 inch wave---ok, not funny. I'll move on...) (Why do I do these bad bits in your gallery? You could have me removed for this ya know...) Ok, I don't know anything about this surfer's move, but you obviously caught it in its very midst, because the gesture is very articulate---the posture seems very much a learned technique rather than a spontaneous 'accident'. You got it right at the right point. Also you've composed the shot with a big "V" of foam, w/ the smoother water in front; and the surfer's off to one side, as if he's either creating that foam or the beneficiary of it. Like all your surf shots, it's filled with action, but seems to stop time as well; in fact the greatest action is the wave, not the surfer. Another fine surf-capture from you; and like Andrew said, with a more powerful camera you'd get even more detail & stop-action beauty. As it is, it's beautiful, Marilyn. When I see your action shots, I think, "where did the 'sports photographer' came from, inside of you???" You sure have the eye for it, that's for sure.
