Description

The other day I was looking for some pants at the Brown Elephant resale store in Boystown. I didn't see any pants I liked, but I did find the deluxe 2 disc DVD set of 2003's "The Matrix Reloaded" for the princely sum of $4. Being a big fan of the original 1999 film, and having seen "Reloaded" at the theatre when it was new, this was a happy turn of events. The general consensus among fans of the "Matrix" series is that the first film brilliantly laid the ground work of it's universe and set new standards for mind blowing special effects and complex philosophical conundrums within the sci-fi /action/adventure genre. And used an awful lot of bullets. The second film expanded those themes, delved even deeper into the philosophy, contained one SERIOUSLY butt kicking car chase, and used an awful lot of bullets. The third film, "The Matrix Revolutions", is a crashing disappointment, the most over-hyped anti-climax of 21st Century cinema thus far, and a movie most of us like to pretend never happened while we secretly hope for a REAL ending to the series. What does all this have to do with this picture? Nothing...and everything. If you know what I mean. Photographed in the filthy kitchen sink of the apartment I share with my Oscar Madison slob of a roommate, in December, 2009 (before I cleaned it out with bleach.)

Ah, yes...the Matrix trilogy: two good films...and a fist fight! And remember, when your mind is clear and you are focused, you will see that it is you that bends. Ah...I loved that little Buddha boy with the slight lisp...he was as intriguing as The Oracle herself, and yeah...in quoting the Oracle: "I just love candy! Don't you?" Yeah...I think it's time to see that again...and hey, Reloaded is the one with the Monica Belucci joke: her character talking to Neo right in front of a screen showing some schlock vampire movie...as a reference to her first English language film: Bram Stoker's Dracula: in which she appeared in as one of Dracula's brides...she's the one who got a nice little nibble on Jonathan Harker, played--you guessed it--by Keanu Reeves. What does this have to do with this picture? Absolutely... ...Nothing! That's the way my mind works. And speaking of Monica Belucci...she was pretty hot (for a woman) in that dress that made her look like a rubber flower. And as for this picture; it rocks...it kinda reminds me of Separate But Equal in that stark and provocative way.

I have never seen either movie! But I will now. 'Inception' was my worst film OF ALL TIME....so it's not looking promising eh!

very interesting combination your photo...the purity of the white cup...the dingy texture of the sink and the cold shinyness of the blade with the shawdows produced by the water droplets. i really like it...awesome work...and i loved the matrix. i definitely prefer sci fi/horror genre... chills and thrills

Well. This makes me think of a cup with a knife in it. I am SO literal! I don't like movies in general, and haven't seen any of the ones mentioned in your writeup or in any of the following comments. I'm sure I've missed something important. When Star Trek was still turning out new episodes, people would ask me if I'd seen a movie or a television show. I would reply, "If it wasn't on Star Trek, I didn't see it." Tomato soup heated in the microwave along with something sliced? Perhaps some cheese, or an apple. A cup of coffee and toast, buttered with a steak knife because a butter knife was unavailable? This makes me think of reasons for these two items, and only these two items, to be in a sink together. FAR too literal.

I liked both movies when they first came out, but they couldn't have been too good if I never saw them again after LOL Great shot and I remembered the title right away- thanks for sharing! :)

It is totally obvious to me that Corey had a cup of water but found it necessary to cut it up into sipping-sized pieces, and now it is all gone!

Well, I think you nailed the Matrix series perfectly for me. But you forgot about the 'insane' Agent Smith, who I think made the whole series really worth watching. I mean, Trinity was nice to look at but I'm married. Smith was a rip roaring riot to behold as a logical programme gone blue screen due to the concept of smell. "Let me be completely honest with you Morphious...... I HATE THIS PLACE!"

Well, I'm in the "didn't see the movie" crowd, so if there's a connection between them and this shot, I'm way out in left field. Still, it's a shot that makes you look at it and try to figure it out. Kinda like those modern art pieces. Ok, now I'm really not making any sense! lol Cuz I know it's a knife and a mug, whereas with modern art you have no clue. Or I don't. Anyway, cool shot!
