"Though I might travel afar, I will meet only what I carry with me, for every man is a mirror. We see only ourselves reflected in those around us. Their attitudes and actions are only a reflection of our own. The whole world and its condition has its counter parts within us all. Turn the gaze inward. Correct yourself and your world will change."

The missionaries have so much to answer for.

Great shot - the B & W emphasizes the starkness of the scene. Well done.

Super B&W. May they rest in peace.
moochagoo
Yes, very powerful picture (and story)
timbobig
An almost shocking image. Abandoned cemeteries are the saddest places, and you have exactly captured that feeling. I'll put a well-cared-for one on my gallery soon.

Great capture! The B&W gives it a stark hollowed feel. :)

An odd sort of serenity. Perhaps an after echo or repose from the wars of the past.

The Native American burial grounds I have been to here are much different. The graves are outlined in stones and colorful grass. The grounds are unattended, sun burned and bare. A small marker with no name is pounded into the ground because saying the deceased's name is believed to hold them to the earth and not allow them to go to the promised land of the ancestors; sometimes an Indian name will be burned into the wood. Trinkets are piled around each burial site... jars, beads, all sort of things that are laid there for the dead to use in the afterlife. Although most would see the bleakness as sad and neglected, the true People know that the lost one has been sent to the world beyond needing nothing more than to be free. I find this to be a very modern cemetery next to those I know. Life changes and I guess the People do too. Very nicely done photo that brought back memories of my own travels back home.

"Illegal" Immigration began with the 'white man'.

A very double feeling indeed. I always loved the natives for their closeness to nature and respect for others. Some things we still have to learn...

i readed some of the missionaries work with the Indians. Cyrus Byington was a good missionaries . He was real maan of God John Chivington was a preacher as well as a military officer (and obviously didn't see any conflicts between the atrocities he committed in the Sand Creek Massacre and his religious faith) now you google both of them and see which one did what the bible say to do. too me it be Cyrus Byington

Many will have a burial, but some will return as the bank. My goodfather was Native and he told me this sentence for these ancestors Now I understand all the words in these sentences. All those who have done evil will not return to shore an anecdote that I hope you will love Thank you for your listening my Beatiful ((5 + +)) Beaucoup auront une sépulture , Mais peu regagneront la rive comme.

stunning. The b&w colors give a moody atmopshere that suits well to the scene. Bravo !
