Description
This is a near by cemetery in the same small native town as the church from my previous post. The Indian Band in this area has preserved the original cemeteries and churches, and it is so interesting to see such an undisturbed piece of history. You can see signs of how Christian Living fell awkwardly into this native culture. The churches stand out against the open fields and tight mountains, and the crosses in the cemetery feel unpraised...

The Native American burial grounds I have been to here are much different. The graves are outlined in stones and colorful grass. The grounds are unattended, sun burned and bare. A small marker with no name is pounded into the ground because saying the deceased's name is believed to hold them to the earth and not allow them to go to the promised land of the ancestors; sometimes an Indian name will be burned into the wood. Trinkets are piled around each burial site... jars, beads, all sort of things that are laid there for the dead to use in the afterlife. Although most would see the bleakness as sad and neglected, the true People know that the lost one has been sent to the world beyond needing nothing more than to be free. I find this to be a very modern cemetery next to those I know. Life changes and I guess the People do too. Very nicely done photo that brought back memories of my own travels back home.

i readed some of the missionaries work with the Indians. Cyrus Byington was a good missionaries . He was real maan of God John Chivington was a preacher as well as a military officer (and obviously didn't see any conflicts between the atrocities he committed in the Sand Creek Massacre and his religious faith) now you google both of them and see which one did what the bible say to do. too me it be Cyrus Byington

Many will have a burial, but some will return as the bank. My goodfather was Native and he told me this sentence for these ancestors Now I understand all the words in these sentences.
