Description

Every beach town I visited in Indonesia had one thing in common. Everything would come to a standstill while people waited for the sunset. Pangandarang was no exception but this little village had something the others didn't. Every evening, from cliff side caves east of town, fruit bats would emerge, fly across the bay, and party until dawn gorging themselves on papaya, mango and jackfruit. As the sun rose they would fly back to their caves to sleep off the night's debauchery. I have included a small image of a bat enlarged many times. I realize its a crap photo but I want you to know these are real. What's so special about these bats? These bad boys have wingspans of up to six feet.
