Description
After fleeing the angry man near the slum settlement I proceeded towards the harbor area. Tanjung Priok was built by the Dutch in the 19th century to accommodate increased traffic due to the opening of the Suez Canal. Today giant tankers and freighters tie up at its docks.
My journey's end, however, was the old harbor at Sunda Kelapa. Dating from the 12th century, it is the destination of the perahu pinisi (sailing cargo vessels) which arrive from all over the Indonesian Archipelago. Navigated primarily by Bugis and Makassarese traders, these vessels form one of the world's few major commercial sailing fleets, transporting raw materials from Sumatra, Kalimantan and Sulawesi.

A working sail fleet! Awesome! That is a dangerous task there and some of their sailors will not make it back.

Marvelous composition! I love all those yardarms (they are yardarms, right?) pointing off to the left. I like the brilliantly painted red ones and the ghostly ones going off into the distance on the right. Excellent capture of all the busy people. I like the seated child near the closest ship. Great shot!
