For centuries the perahu pinisi have sailed the waters of Indonesia. Ships such as the Sari Manis, Karya Indah and Jabal Arfah, to this day, carry teak wood from Sumatra, rice from Bali and spices from the Moluccas. And if you are friendly and willing to bargain, some of these ships will take you as a passenger back to their home ports.
