Description

...took this photo at Edwards Air Force Base back in April. ...BUT, this image is much more about what can be done artistically with B&W...light, shapes, shadows, etc., then it is about the nose of this T-33 Shooting Star:) Bill "Long Shadows" thumb_2237621.jpg

Superb work Bill, lovely lines. One of our Red Arrows crashed today after a display, no news yet about the pilot but it doesn't look good!

I can't stop yawning when I look at this face, and not because of the (superb) quality of the image!

Fantastic treatment in B&W, Bill! Love the light/shadows in this photo of a classic! We also had a fatal crash at the Kansas City airshow today - very sad..

I always thought the nose was strange with the pattern of the black area maybe housing radar.outstanding work Bill

The B&W look sure does emphasize the size of the nose. I’ll have to stay away for B&W photographers! :<) Dana

I love your nose-on airplane shots, but can't seem to remember to take them myself! As many times as I've seen this view from you, and as many planes as I've walked in front of, I've still never done it. This is outstanding both for the pov and for the b&w conversion and postwork. LOVE the reflections in the fuselage!

It looks fantastic Bill. From this angle it almost threw me off, thought it might have been a F-89 or F-94. A T-bird was the only fighter/trainer jet I had the oportunity to fly on. Sit on a hot ejection seat, a wonderful feeling. We pulled 3.5 Gs, both positive and negative. The indicator only went to 5G. In todays jet fighters this is nothing. We also dispersed chaff and were buzzed by F-102s. All over the Olympic Peninsula! BTW - is this Tara's influence?

I'm still recovering from Andrea's comment, so I'll have to...yawn...look again later...after I've had a little nap!

Great capture & what you have done. Have you heard about the Red Arrow pilot that died while doing a display yesterday. Very sad!!!

You are quite right Bill, you can play with aircraft in shots, just like this (masterfully done!), or take a straight flight or posted shot.. Excellent my friend! Rob

Wow, this is really wonderful! It almost makes me like airplanes...OK, maybe not, but it's a brilliant composition and I LOVE those reflections on the nose!

You have achieved tons of stark lighting contrast, shapes and shadows in this excellently postworked picture, Bill. Was there an airshow going on at that time permitting you to stroll around the base for a photo shoot, or can you do it at any time of the year?

There is no doubt about it - this looks like Pluto's nose, remember that goofy Cartoon character ? - crafty manipulation Bill, BB

Like Andrea, I see the yawn...or maybe a kind of aeronautic gape...the suggestion of an open mouth is marvelous and I agree that black and white provides such a different context in which to see things and to experience them. I love the shadows and reflections as well. This is all-around marvelous!
