Description

here is my folly..... a lifetime of creating images, many long years learning all that could, about all that I thought would advance me as an image maker....started with macs and photoshop when they very first appeared on the market.....strived to create imagery that was uniquely mine and BAMMMMMM I moved into publishing and the greeting card industry ....... well....... everything I know about what makes a great image was thrown out the door... well almost everything..... the image above, we sold over 300,000 copies of!!!!! go figure.... an image that took 2 minutes to gather up in my hand - held at arms length in a studio situation, snapped on transparency (slide film) on a Hasselblad for 1/60th of a second no effort no render time no computer crashes no set building nothing 300,000 copies sheeeeesh this is my folly thanks for letting me vent cheers image boy www.thehenselcollection.com one day it will all work out

Tonight, Carl's going wild... uploading a new image every 5th minute! :D Just go on, shadow boy, I'm sure your treasure chest is bottomless... I'm not surprised this capture became so popular. Sometimes, the simplicity that talks to peoples' hearts, that's what rules... The problem is one never knows for sure which capture has it, and which not. I'm glad you've made this one who HAS it! :) Vashek

yeah the girls and woman (and some guys) love flowers. The scan made of the probably sharp and detailful Hasselblad picture a aquarell-style ....but it's fitting for a motive like that.

Oopsie..... Friends above spoke a lot, so I will say nothing! Nothing but Lavender. Lavender is so attractive to humans. What is the chemistry hidden behind? Smack!! O. :o))

Well...it's the kind of image which might be used to express love, romance, sympathy, spiritualism, purity...it is simple, classic, low key and somber in color...so there you are! It speaks to people. Ravel hated the piece he composed called "Bolero", but people through the years (including me) have loved it. One never knows. You were just a conduit for the powers of the universe my dear! Heehee!

I can see why. Simple lines, yet an intricate texture, beautiful light and shadow adding more aspects to the composition. The color of green and lavender is so attractive to humans as Odile says. I love this one, Carl!

seems that some of the richest men have garnered their wealth from a one time "folly".... not to mention some of the most important advancements in technology and medicine being "discovered" after a mistake or mix-up. Still, I like your prior images much more... (not a flower lover by a long shot)

As artists, we sometimes get lost in the complications of the art. This is simple, beautifully done, and has broad appeal. Most people don't care how you arrived at an image, they're not impressed by your equipment or the subtleties of an image. Of course, you know that. I think that's why you are part of this community, we can appreciate the work. Keep one foot in each world and you may retain your sanity...so rant away!

Art is a truly fickle mistress mate! Anyway such works give you - hopefully - the financial latitude to go create something else! Must admit, I love pictures of flowers but this one kind off doesn't do much for me - just being honest - very well taken but lacks something, but hey it sold. Is that good, is it bad? I guess its neither and both. We all need a good rant so rant away shiny balls :) Martin

I've found that to be true of some of my postings. The ones that I slaved over... did okay. Some of the ones I whipped out with little postwork did fabulous. You never really "know" what's going to 'click' with the audience. You think you know and then the above picture happens. You think oh this is another flower picture but the rest of the world goes... wow! And I love the simplicity and color in these flowers. Really lovely work.

Like I said on your Pirelli post - it's the little jobs that put dinners on the table! The best art in history has come from patronage, not commercial imperatives. When you have the time to create images for yourself, maybe you can let rip with all that accumulated knowledge and expertise! Actually, I quite like the picture.

I can see why in your photo! But I'm not so good at seeing what others see in my own work.
