Description

Sitting downstairs working on one of my part-time side projects when I heard a familiar, but highly unusual growl outside. Hit the stairs at a dead run, startling the dogs, the significant other, and one of the kids in the living room. I got to the deck just in time to see a PBY Catalina fly by the house and land at Kenmore Air on Lake Washington. When I picked my jaw up off of the ground, I realized I had the cell phone (and camera) in my pocket, but he had descended below the trees. Figured I was out of luck--until I heard it again, so I grabbed the real camera and snagged a couple of shots.

I'd love to see this anytime! You snagged a bit of a nice Jeep too!

My other baby (GRIN). Pics turned out pretty good considering I was dealing with stiff wind and rain...

That's the approach the seaplanes take to land at Kenmore Air on the north end of Lake Washington. Really sucks to sit out on my deck and watch the planes land--REALLY it does... (GRIN)

I know the feeling ... we're just a bit south of Paine Field, and there are a lot of WWII planes there that are flyable. And they fly over our house a lot. It's noisy. VERY sad. (GRIN right back atcha!) :D We run out into the driveway a lot. :D :D :D

Ah yes...missed this when you first posted it. Great job for a quick sets of snaps from your deck. I envy your view. We are presently sitting in a campground near Lake McMurray, north of Arlington and northeast of Oak Harbor...the very same PBY flew over here 2-3 days ago...slow and steady. It is easy to see why they were so effective hunting submarines, downed flyers and naval movements in general!

Plus the range to stay up there a VERY long time. Friend of mine said there was one being rebuilt up in Skagit that then got shipped to NAS Whidbey and put on display there. Personally, I would have preferred it flying (GRIN)... Well, enjoy the weather (if you have decent weather up there) because if you are coming back Tues/Wed, you'll be missing the 80 degree weather of the last few days. Rainy and 60s, but Thu it is supposed to warm back up into the 70s at least. Heading out the door now to put the top up on the Jeep since I don't trust the weather guy's forecasts--seeing rain clouds already in Kenmore... Safe trip and thx for the comment.

Like the presentation, especially the last frame. Gives the "low and slow" feel of this classic flying boat! :~)
