Description

I would like to thank everyone that participated in the two posts before. Those two and the ones to come are a group of postings in the series from a vantage point at the end of this massive mesa. For those that have trekked along this pictorial you may recall it being a sea of sand at first. As if reaching an island or continent the area became sandstone for as far as the eye could see. Having hiked across such I'm standing on the precipice looking over that sand sea for the next land mass to sail too. :~) The last two posts about the cave were looking west. This is a northerly direction. In full view you may make out Bryce canyon in the far distance slightly left of center. Also along the skyline approximately center is Mollies nipple, a landmark around the Paria town site ruins. In the far right, barely visible in full view is the Aquarius plateau. Just below the landmarks named above, and just right of center traveling to the left of the frame behind the red rocks of the Coyote Buttes is the Kaibab Plateau. The Kaibab Plateau runs through the Grand Canyon south of here. West Bench is the large sunlight red mesa center right. In front of West bench in the shadow of the clouds are north and south tepees. As above the Coyote Buttes are the Red rocks center left. I've always been tightly lipped about this location, but after my last trip and seeing what a three ring circus things have become, I had to ask what's happened. So I was informed of how a German film crew illegally went in produced a film and has publicized this well kept secret to the world some years ago. I figure the cat's out of the bag, so Top rock mesa, the white mesa in the center, partly sunny and partly in shadow. That is where "The Wave" is located. I took the south permit exploring the possibility of reaching the north unit. As you can see that is not possible on a day permit. There is no camping allowed in this wilderness area. The rock formations in the foreground have no names I'm aware of. Have a liking for the turtle shaped rock, lower left. Reminds me of the one in the post "Sandstone wash". thumb_2158377.jpg

I can see why you would keep this to yourself. Spectacular landscape and unusual formations. I can imagine how it might all be ruined by crowds of people with no respect for the land.
