Description
If you take the train south and east from Jakarta you will come to the hill town of Wonosobo. A bus from town will take you further into the mountains along a narrow, winding road. At the end of the road you arrive at the Dieng Plateau which sits inside the caldera of an ancient volcano. Sulphurous steam still rises from cracks in the earth. The name "Dieng" comes from Di Hyang which means "Abode of the Gods".
The plateau is 6,500 feet above sea level and was once the site of as many as four hundred small Hindu temples dating to 750 a.d. Over the centuries the temples have been dismantled and the materials used for other buildings. Today there are only eight left. The spirits of the ancient Hindus remain and on days when the plateau is covered in thick fog it is easy to believe that ghosts really do exist.

love that we visited so many places ...... but not at the same time... had the thick fog too ...... but the only ghosts around at 3:30h in the morning was me climbing the mountain to yake a sunrise picture with the volcanos as foreground (which the fogclouds did let me do) ...but got some OK shots of the 2 colored lake and the rest aof the area.
