Description
I took the Bandung Railroad Line south and east from Jakarta across the plains of Western Java. Everywhere I saw scenes like this as I headed for the high country.

And all sown, tended and harvested by hand too!

It's mind boggling, how much rice is produced every year, all of it one stalk at a time, one field at a time. About 700 million metric tons, they say. Just like this.

Have always liked the hillside gardens, not that the patterns in the lower lands aren't nice too.

I love the serene look of these rice fields - especially as they are not straight and in line like ours - and who says they have to be straight and totally square ? It's also amazing to think, that all this was done by hand! BB

I love rice, so I had to read more on this about how they actually harvest it.. pretty interesting, and great photo.

I've seen scenes like this in Japan, but not gotten such a beautiful capture. I've seen rice fields in Louisiana, but they aren't as pretty (and lately they've been pretty parched.) I love the patterns of the fields, the short vertical lines of the plants, and the reflected clouds in the water. Beautiful view and capture!
