Description

I noticed this floating mass of purple in a pool of water by our rock garden. At first, I thought it was flower seeds but upon closer inspection, realized it was a mass of tiny purple insects(larvae?) being tended by tiny spider or mite type insects. The floating mass is about the size of a dime. They're called Springtail: Snow Fleas most often found in Winter months, but this is still summer. Our summer has been unseasonably cooler this year. I believe they're mites on the mass as they're listed as predator. Taken with Panosonic Lumix Z18. I am quite impressed with the macro feature. Thanks for looking.

Kind of creepy looking, ha ha! Maybe one bite for a fish lurking below.
