Description
This is a Dini surface in fact 4 of it. This surface is a pseudosherical surface it's also call a One-soliton surface that corresponds to the following solution of the Sine-Gordon equation;
q(u,v)=4*arctan(exp(cosec(aa*pi)*u-cotan(aa*pi)*v))
For this image I superposed 4 Dini surfaces with variation of the value of "aa" in the equation, I tried to match there positions as much as possible even if it's no perfect. I use a light blue crystal shader with a little bit of gold reflection, for the sky I used my favourite Bryce sky that I saved as HDRI map and used as light source in Carrara.

More food for thought Thanks for the equation I will have to give it a try I like the Idea of using the Bryce sky as hdri Lovely shaders and setup! Thanks once again!

A wonderful creation with superb lighting and colouring. Sounds very complicated to do.

Well, it's fascinating, and it makes me wish I knew what you were talking about. I had math into the 3rd year of college, so I can read the equation, but that's about all. I think it might be a design for a washing machine agitator?
