Description

Captured 8/3/11, on my third visit to the beautiful Aquarium of the Pacific in beautiful Long Beach, California. A ZOOM would be to your distinct advantage. Photo taken using the aquarium setting on my point-and-shoot camera. SEA JELLIES are 90 percent water and have no brain, eyes, heart, or bones. Despite their simple design, the Aquarium's sea jellies require a complex environment to thrive. Round tanks called kreisels are designed to keep water flowing in a circle so the animals do not become caught on the sides of the exhibit. The jellies are monitored daily and are fed brine shrimp. I was going to include this one in a collage but felt it spectacular enough to post as a stand alone. Cheerio, thankx for dropping by, and for any and all favs and complimentary comments.

They are very interesting creatures Harry and you have caught an internal structure that I have not seen before. Definitely a standalone posting and a must zoom. Dana

Who would have thought it ? being able to see all those veins in detail - I am glad by your choice of presenting it on it's own - soooo much better, I agree with you there! Top stuff Harry, BB

A jelly without a brain, eyes, heart or bones... Oh, we are so fortunate to have all those things and to hopefully have them all working together for our good. This is a most interesting critter...I've been swimming in the ocean with small ones and have happily avoided contact as contact can be quite painful. Super capture my friend for all the photographic reasons you know so well:)

fascinating info about the jellyfish...no brain? Amazing. I wonder how it moves and knows what to eat. (I guess it must be programmed biologically.) The pic is nearly a photographic painting, we can see the "nodes" in its skin, those orange-ish networks of strands that fill the transparent "back" of the fish. And the light that fills is makes it like an underwater apparition, with (what I think is) a fish behind it, and its 'antennae', and the light beaming off it, it's a beautiful underwater image surrounded by rich blacks. Very fine work. I'd imagine it's hard to avoid reflections in an aquarium, but with your experience I'm sure you knew what to do & where to stand. A mysterious beautiful image, and yes, it stands alone quite well. You can always do a montage later. Beautiful capture.

Gorgeous! Definitely worth a solitary spot. Wonderful capture of the veins and translucency. Excellent fine web-like texture towards the tendrils. Beautiful colors and light!
