Description

An exercise in silhouetting, captured 5/26/11, during my first visit to the beautiful Aquarium of the Pacific in beautiful Long Beach, California. Considerably good in ZOOM mode. A couple of young fellows, armed with some serious camera equipment, preparing to record the antics of the seals and sea lions as they cavort joyfully about. I was fortunate to catch these scenes because I was standing in a heavily traveled passageway, which separates the huge water enclosure into two interconnected sections (the inhabitants swim under the tunnel to the other side), and visitors could have walked between me and my subject matter at any moment, interfering with my devoted efforts. I wasn't that lucky much of the time with my other shots. Sayonara, thankx for popping in, and for any and all favs and complimentary comments.

I do like the silhouette type characters - you can almost feel/see them thinking, without saying a word to each other - all so silent! the attention is in the details, as the story unfolds, Harry BB

That is some very serious equipment! Wonder how their shots came out? I like yours, there's a nice graphic feel to them; excellent collage, Harry!

Brilliant shots! Personally I couldn't carry the weight of my dog Ralph around just to take pics, but they are young, strong and obsessive and I hope their work is worth the load!

it is such a pleasure to be back here, Harry, and be reminded of your magical eye for the scenes & milieus that many of us never visit or tackle. The mood of these is "underwater" even though you're all in 'air', and it speaks of a cavern. As I'm considering a new camera, seeing this equipment makes me drool and also tremble, because, as Andrea says, I'd have to carry around the equivalent of a dog to have all this. She's joking, of course, but not too much. In fact, you've done a number of photographer-series here, appreciating what a gaggle of photographers looks like, and how photogenic they really are, and how strange & other worldly. At full-size, we can see---through your camera and/or fine postwork---enough detail of the photographers to make them more than black silhouettes. I love the insignia on the right-side photographer's back: It stands out in the 2d shot like a luminous decal, making the eerie underground feel all the more palpable. The fish/dolphins/whatever they are, are like apparitions; and the tanks have a broad 'brush stroke' feel, like someone went inside them & painted strokes across them, with light coats of algae. Love the eerie light along with the harsh highlights (ie, some of the metal parts shine strongly here). It's eerie & very cloistered, and a fine collection from a place many of us probably haven't been since we were kids. Leave it to you to shoot where a lot of us don't even walk. Lovely collection, great to be back here again.

Fascinating Harry. It'd be fun to see what they got with their serious camera gear. Good thinking on your part to catch the shooters shooting. Well done.

Might need to take the camera OFF the tripod to follow the fast moving seal.. lol It would be a blur and if they plan on using that big flash set up there it would white out the picture! lol Good to see, you Harry, used neither and got these great shots, well done on a couple of great candid shots.. lol Rob
