My name is Tara, and I was born and raised in Washington State.
Â
In 2010 I married Bill (bmac62) and retired ... two of the best choices I ever made! :)
Â
In March, 2013, we sold our home in Washington and went on the road in our RV full time. What a blast! There is so much world out there to see!
After traveling around the West for a few years, we got rid of the motorhome and are now spending winters in deep-south Texas and summers in Washington State. Spring and fall finds us visiting whichever place strikes our fancy at the time!

Really special in mono. I can imagine myself coming down there in Busby Berkley mode, and tripping over my flipflops.

Love the perspective and the geometry. The mosaics between the rungs are a wonder and makes the ladder very special. Your capture of the figure in the window, seen through the bars and the lantern, are special too. Wonderful in B/W!

Beautiful capture of one of my favourite types of architecture; I thought it had to be somewhere other than here, you don't see many stucco buildings with Mexican tile accents here. Which is too bad, IMO :)

Stairway to Heaven..... Or at least just a little closer... Beautiful capture, Tara, and an excellent choice for black & white!

Nice range from white/white to black/black. Wonderful pattern repetition in the tiles and ironwork. And the figure is the cherry on top. Outstanding black and white.

And you took this when light was flat...high over head as I recall. I too really like the geometry here. I had little use for the stuff when trying to get through it in college, but now with no pop quizzes or tests to worry about, I love it:)

How amazing! I'm so behind in commenting, but that's not surprising; it just means I get to discover new things for a longer period of time. Like this particular gem! WOW! I can imagine how brilliant it must be in color, but I have to say that your choice to use black and white is spot-on-perfect; all of the details come out that way, especially the always-subtle business that always goes on between shapes when they start doing that up/down/in/out and over-thataway kind of thing. That's the kind of stuff I like, and you know, this particular image makes me think that Hej or some other desert-dwelling, onion-worshipping person has built these steps: okay, not Hej...he has a different job, but maybe his brother, or cousin, or uncle, or uncle's neighbor's brother-in-law's nephew's classmate, or some such person. Of course now you have me wondering if there are any onion-skins in a little cage in that window. One never knows. This is brilliant. It's making a trip into my favorites.

with all the discussions of b&w between you, bill & me, you've moved-in and made a very sensuous b&w, with sepia tones and even slightly greenish tones; and a softness that makes this stairway feel like a dream. The stucco wall on our far right is a punctuation mark to the piece: Everything moves back from it. You've framed the spilling stairwell perfectly by cutting it off as it spills into the left-most frame. And the piece is awash in deep grays, sensuous & soft-feeling, offsetting the rocklike nature of the facade. Just shows how one can find art in many places if one knows how to extract it from inside the picture. A beautiful soft vision, and a fine example of how many ways to use b&w...
