Ah, yes...the church lady hat, I'll bet she's got a fan in her purse too, the fold-out kind with Bible verses printed on it in black ink, unless Jesus said it and then it's in red ink...and that would be next to her little package of kleenex, and peppermint lifesavers to give to kids so that they shut up when Rev'n Cletus Ulysses Washington, Jr III starts gettin' to the good part of the sermon, the part where everyone starts dancing around, catchin' the spirit, but making sure their skirts don't fly up. And of course, the gospel choir (wit they good Sunday perms) would somehow be involved along with the electric organ riffs punctuating whatever high point the good rev'n Cletus Ulysses Washington Jr. III gets to, haleluya, praise Jesus! and all of that. I suspect, just from the hat-size alone that she's either Missionary Baptist (MB) or Church of God In Christ (C.O.G.I.C) I love the light in this shot, the weave of her hat, the color (kinda makes you think Easter, but this particular hat is too small and not quite Aretha Franklin enough for Easter.) Marvelous shot. This is one of the reasons why I like the CTA.

I love Chip's rant. This is a beaut of a titfer and a perfect compo: strangely, on opening the image I was reminded instantly of Billy Connolly's piece about someone vomiting into a hood. (I tried to find it on You Tube but lost patience)

Now you see? Art brings people to it in different ways. I immediately thought, "Holy Cow, it's the Queen!" I love it that this woman could be anybody. She could be the Queen of England, or Chip's church lady on the way to a hallelujah-raisin' sermon. The demographics of the place I live would make this church-going lady about five feet tall, thin white curly hair, pale transluscent skin and wan blue eyes, quiet and demure. She might give someone a "look" if they were misbehaving, which would be mostly ignored. Her pastor's name is probably Dan Bronsen, or something equally middle-class-white-bread ordinary. Andrea's vomit-spewing person never crossed my mind ... it's a reference that totally escapes me. But there you have it. So many different interpretations, different rabbit-trail paths for us to go down, just based on a lady in a hat on a bus on Sunday morning.

My thoughts are the same as Auntietk. This lady might pass as the queen of England. Stunning capture my friend. God Bless.
