Description

The men you will see in front of Buckingham Palace are not just ceremonial guards but also serving soldiers. While upholding the traditions of the past, they also perform duties throughout the world as professional soldiers and are known as some of the most elite and skilled soldiers in the British Army. The Queen's Guard (infantry )and Queen's Life Guard (cavalry) are the names given to contingents of soldiers charged with guarding the official royal residences in London. The British Army had regiments of both Horse Guards and Foot Guards predating the English Restoration in 1660, and since the reign of King Charles II these have been responsible for guarding the Sovereign's palaces. The other five regiments of foot are: The Grenadier Guards The Coldstream Guards The Scots Guards The Irish Guards The Welsh Guards The Changing of the Guards Ceremony takes place at 11:00 AM. Scanned 1995 photo. Some data from Wikipedia. Thanks for stopping by my gallery, taking a look and for all your previous favs and comments. They are very much appreciated. Dana

Excellent shot Dana, I've seen this a couple of times and it's fascinating to watch and very disciplined. The colours are spot on.

When I was about 5 I had a super wooden jigsaw of all the Guards regiments and Winsdor Castle. I learned how to recognise each sort by the way their tunic buttons are arranged, Your shot brought all that back! The sky was hard to do on that jigsaw.

Let me guess ...while on vacation back in 95 you didn't compel yourself to tell one of these guards a joke to see if they could keep a straight face?....lol...looks like you had fun though!...Nice capture Dana!..

I just love the uniforms these guards wear. However, they must really, really suffer in the hot weather with those wool jackets and bear fur hats... A nice capture of something truly English!

These are the guards that everyone tries to make smile isn't it? I would be one of those that would try to put a smile upon their face. :))) I just think everyone should smile at some point in the day. LOL!!!! This is most wonderful info. and the capture is amazing. :)))) Thank you my friend for sharing all the beauty you have seen and that you see. :))))) Carry A Smile In Your Heart :))))
