Description

hi friends, Berlinians have a special relationship to their pets - and to their plants. If someone of the 400 000 trees in our streets must be cut down it means troublewith the residents there - tree for tree! Countless Berlinians engage in gardening - in their regular gardens, in backyards, on balconies and even in front of their houses. In some neighbourhoods, especially the better ones, it was ordered by law that there has to be a front garden with iron fence, when they built this houses 100 years ago. Today you can see a lot of jewels if you keep your eyes open - like this one here. The garden here is situated in Berlin - Rixdorf, a part of the District Neukoelln, a city with 350 000 inhabitants in the south of Berlin. The houses in the background are city villas, built around 1870. They are all historical buildings, of course. Neukoelln is not well respected in Berlin; manny of the people are immigrants, the schools are lousy and there is a lot of criminality. But among there are oasises like these here. When I took the pictures here, two civil policemen controlled two drug dealers and arrested them, only 10 meters beside.... Wonder4ful capture of a city garden. this is a private space, but I remember being told on a tour of your city that one third was a green area. And if this activity keeps the doc..keeps going!! Love the insight of Berlin life.
