Description

------------- Stacked Deck - Cage

Gambler, womanizer, warrior, hero.

Not many people who knew Derrek Cage in passing would have applied all those epithets to him. And most would throw several more, not so flattering, names into the mix. Needless to say, Derrek was a good friend of mine long before he became leader of the Stacked Deck. He and I met in Hillshome some time before the Three Wars. I’d been around the Shires for many a year. He’d just arrived east of the Western Barriers for the first time. He didn’t know anything of the Pouarr Nation back then, and probably wouldn’t have been able to tell a Houlifar from a Dwarf without the beards. And of course, we hated each other from the first minute we met. Apparently he had his eye on the same young half-elf singer that I was wooing. Of course, we played a few hands of cards to see who’d get her, and when she started to leave with this Pouarr barbarian, we ended up in one hell of a bar fight. Both of us ended up in jail that night. Been friends ever since.

I heard he’d enlisted during the Three Wars, but never saw him again until last year when I ran across him in Rangershome. He was traveling with this portly priest and a blonde firebrand from the Sisters of the Pearl. He had an idea to start a Venture Company, live out of hotels and count gold coin every other night. I guess neither of us guessed that Rangershome would end up being our home from then on, or that we’d spend most of our nights on the cold ground in the mountains or swatting bugs in the stinking swamps of the Khang Empire.

If you’ve lost your daughter to goblin raiders. If ogres threaten your farm. If you’re being haunted by undead from that old crypt out back, or a vile necromancer has set his sights on your castle as his next lair. Go find Derrek Cage at the Leaky Lass in Rangershome. If he’s not in jail,… if he’s sober,… and if you send a really gorgeous babe to ask him nicely, you might just be able to hire the Stacked Deck. Why play fair when you can play with a Stacked Deck?
