Description
I couldn�t decide so you get 2 POVs of Horseshoe Falls which is part of Niagara Falls, on the Niagara River. Approximately 90% of the Niagara River, after diversions for hydropower generation, flows over Horseshoe Falls. The remaining 10% flows over the American Falls. Much of Horseshoe Falls is located in Ontario, Canada with the remainder in New York State, US. The name is derived from its curving, horseshoe shaped crest that is 2,201 feet (671 meters) in width. At the top of Horseshoe Falls the water is about 9.8 feet (3 meters) deep. It passes over the crest at a speed of about 20 mph (32 KMph). The falls are 174 feet (53 meters) high. The depth of the river, at the base of the falls, estimated at 184 feet (56 meters), is actually deeper than the height of the falls itself. Late 1990s photo scanned.

SUPERB shot, dana! (Drove my motorcycle out east and to Niagra Falls in the late 1970's .... At the time, the city nearby on the U.S. side was NASTY/SLUM area and the CANADIAN side was NICE!).

Although both cool pics of the Falls, I prefer the top one in this instance. The sound must have been thundering from your vantage point. Also, good information on this presentation. Incidentally, "Horseshoe Falls" was one of the answers in a crossword puzzle I recently completed.

After my visit to the falls I later wrote my interpretation of why it is a world wonder to me. It is because it assaults all of your senses at once: you feel the vibration in your feet, you taste the moisture in the air (particularly at the bottom), you hear the roar, you can smell the water, and of course you can see the falls. Touch. Taste. Hear. Smell. See. Not that many places induce all those sense feelings. Nice shots Dana!
