Description

Kingsnakes are a non-venomous type of snake that are members of the Lampropeltis genus. Lampropeltis means "shiny shield" (from the Greek), a name given to them in reference to their dorsal scales. Kingsnakes use constriction to kill their prey and tend to be opportunistic when it comes to their diet; they will eat other snakes, including venomous snakes, lizards, rodents, birds and eggs. They are known to be immune to the venom of other snakes There are more than 70 combinations of patterns and coloration, known as morphs, found in the wild. Those living in desert regions generally have black and white bands, while coastal and inland valley individuals tend to be brown and yellow. The California Kingsnake is one of the most popular pet reptiles, due to its ease of care, attractive appearance, and ability to become tame. Kingsnakes are generally docile, curious and gentle. (from Wikipedia) This little guy lives at the Environmental Nature Center in Orange County, California.

Snakes are beautiful creatures .... but me personally scary. I just find a fish in water, one elephants at the zoo I'm blonde .... snakes but I find everywhere. In the water, on land and they can also come from above - from the tree. And they fit through anywhere. All this makes me uneasy. Super Pic!!

A lovely creature. I wish folk wouldn't keep snakes as pets, They are so often neglected here and get covered in mites and kept in filthy conditions. And they aren't that cuddly.
