Description
This is an American National Monument in Wyoming and is a religeous symbol to the American Indians.
About 50 million years ago molten magma was forced into sedimentary rocks above it and then cooled underground. As it cooled it contracted and fractured into columns. Over millions of years erosion of the sedimentary rocks exposed Devils Tower. The tower today rises 867 feet (approx 290M) from its base and 5,112 feet above sea level. The area of its top is 1.5 acres, the diameter of its base is 1000 feet. Sage grows atop and there is a family of ground squirrels there too.

This is one of those magical places, no matter how often I hear about it or see it. Yeah, and it was featured in Close Encounters of the Third Kind with a gigantic, over-lit merry-go-round hovering just above it, spewing out 5 simple notes that came to define the late 1970s. (Hmmm...did I just reveal my age?) Anyway...this is a fantastic shot: I love the wonderful POV and this particular face of that magma-induced monolith: it's so sleek from this particular angle. This is a gorgeous shot.
