Description

Smoke Tree (Cotinus Obovatus) One of the rarest American trees, this relative of the Sumacs is only found in the eastern United States, on or near limestone beds or limestone cliffs. The name alludes to the hazy sprays, up to a foot long, of small feathery fruits which resemble puffs of smoke. These fruits may be brown, pink or blue. Info from the National Park Service marker. Seen at the Saugus Iron Works on August 31st. Zoom does not help. Thanks for stopping by my gallery, taking a look and for all your previous favs and comments. They are very much appreciated. Dana

What an amazing shot. I've never heard of this type of tree, but when all things are considered, I've never heard of a lot of things. What I really like about this is the way in which you've captured the nicely fuzzy tree-fluff! The colors are great as is your use of light. Such rich greenery too. The POV makes me think this is quite a tall tree. Really nice work! I like this a lot!

Great shot, there is a garden variety of this with pink flowers and reddish leaves that I have always wanted here in the UK, but this looks just as good I must try to get one, thanks for showing it.

Oh my, the straw man of all trees. And with a bad hair day to go along with it. Never even knew such a species existed, which shouldn't come as any surprise. Outstanding clarity, lighting and textures in this super shot, Dana.

A wonderful capture of this beautiful tree. We have them down here and they turn gorgeous colours in the autumn. We also have one with very dark red leaves. They are a very beautiful tree.

It seems, that I am not the only one, who hasn't heard of such an unusual tree, quite a phenomena - so striking in it's features - simply amazing, thanks for opening my eyes to something so mesmerising! I am hooked and now I want one of those trees in my garden ;-) thanks for sharing, Dana BB
