Description

Mono Lake is a shallow saline lake formed at least 760,000 years ago and is located in California, east of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. It has no outflow hence the salinity. The lake has an unusually productive ecosystem based on brine shrimp that thrive in its waters, and providing a critical nesting habitat for two million annual migratory birds that feed on the shrimp. The lake is shallow with an average depth of 17m (56-ft). The surface area is 182.65 square kilometer and the surface elevation is 6,378-ft (1,944m)[Wikipedia]. Seen from Vista Point . The highway in the foreground is U.S. Highway 395. This picture was taken on 17 September 2011, Sig...

Beautiful mate! Epic shot.. No doubt though, very sadly, man is slowly draining it and denying this wonderful place to those millions of birds... He always does! Excellent! Rob
