Description
This is the Comma butterfly (Polygonia c-album). The top shot illustrates where the name comes from - the white mark is supposed to look like a comma.

This is one species I have never come across here, where we live, it's absolutely spectacular! The name is the only thing, I feel is not fair - I could think of more interesting and more appropriate ones - the intricate patterns & rich colours plus the shape it's such a reminder of the 'ol' hippy style' ... gorgeous!
