Description

We discovered interior domes and spacious, multi-story lobbies on a Friday with sunlight, crowds, an accordion player, and puppets in a bike-attached kiosk. Corey and I met with Tara and Bill on the previous night, ate at Reza’s, and on Friday afternoon, descended with Bill and Tara into the depths of Chicago. It began with conversation and laughter. I ate cheese. That isn’t surprising: I always eat cheese. It’s better than junk food. We discovered a strange world in, on, and beneath The Bean…of course its official name is The Cloud Gate, but no one ever calls it that. This is Chicago, after all and Da Bean is the Chicago name for it. I’m sure there will be bean posts for months to come; I have nearly one hundred of them, and I’m sure that everyone else has close to that number, if not more. One can spend an entire day photographing Da Bean only to discover that it’s becomes a different thing each day and with each new crowd. West of Tara and Bill discovered a lobby, just west of Da Bean and I’d discovered an interior dome a few weeks before. I hadn’t seen it up close, and after numerous Bean shots, I wandered with fellow Renderosity Photo Ninjas, in search of subjects. Chicago, in a cooperative mood, provided countless subjects. Some human. Some non-human. All of them, interesting. As we devoured the Carbide and Carbon Building with our cameras (Corey found himself in a conversation with one of the building’s residents) I popped out of the marvel of gold and marble, peeked northward and saw a version of the photograph shown here. I nabbed a shot, popped back inside, and continued with documenting curves and colors, designs and shadows. Those will come a bit later, but until that time comes, here is a snap of Michigan Avenue on a Friday afternoon, with great company. Of course I’ve post-worked this image: it’s more of a subjective mood thing than a photograph. I rather like it this way…it’s dreamy, as I see it. It’s a memory. Digitized. The guitar player was pretty good. As always, thank you for viewing, reading, and commenting, and I hope you’re all on the brink of a great week.

Dreamlike. That hand is wierd. I love what you've done to the colours, it represents fairly accurately how I feel when surrounded by folk and noise for too long!

This is a great city scene, and your postwork gives it just the right touch. A little bit of everything here; as cities are.

I see what you mean about going for space but falling to old habits. There certainly is no space in this busy scene you have captured here. But then again there is, as there is clearly an opening around the street player. Of course this is typical... no one wants to get too close lest they feel obligated to pay.

Chip - this is an instant favourite. You have captured a moment in time that could be anyone's moment - and I feel it could be mine. Love the slight desaturation and the dreamy feel of the image! LOVE it! I really wish I could be with you guys! :))

This is a delightful and classic city scene, Chip. It is timeless - it could have been taken at any point in modern times. It could easily pass for one of those old postcards you used to find years ago that had a wonderful textured look. Brilliant postwork and great capture, my friend!

Love the result! I saw the original, pre-postwork (pre-post? wtf?) and liked it very much, but what you've done with it brings it to a whole new realm. Outstanding work, and a fantastic image!

Urban/Cityscape...mood and atmosphere...you've captured it all in this one shot. I remember you being very smug that you had caught this street musician in full ninja mode;-) Well done. And the postwork is coooool.
