Description

I have no idea who Devonia Devvvine reallyis, but I know that she’s pretty hot in that version of Chicago that isn’t actually there. She’s one of the hot, new Names in an industry filled with names. She’s a force. She’s the perpetual outsider. She’s…well…she’s Devonia Devvvine (pronounced Devonia Deveen.) I’ve seen her first collection: it’s sufficiently interesting: a bit like Vivienne Westwood crossed with a 3-Alarm Fire and squeezed through an old fashioned pasta machine, and everything she produces is a bit on the pricy side. Devonia Devvvine, I have heard, is quite interested in putting the bottom back in fashion. I don’t really know what that means (Fashion’s bottom has been removed?) but it sounds compelling. I took this original photograph yesterday; we had brilliant weather, for once, and a lovely sunset. I didn’t see much of that sunset because of all of those tall, downtown Chicago buildings in the way, but I found that it reflected rather extravagantly from various west-facing windows. It was a pleasant, photographically-fulfilling day: LovelyPoetess joined us for a prolonged meander through the city, and I suspect that the whole Devonia Devvvine thing came from one of the store displays we found. I think she found it. We were on the way back to the Burnham, for conversation, cookies and all of that good stuff, when I saw her near one of the numerous display windows along State Street. There were some pretty lethal shoes on display, the kind you couldn’t possibly wear if you were interested in anything from walking to sitting with your ankles crossed. Needless to say, she and I got numerous photographs of those lethal beauties. And so, I suspect, somewhere, in the back of my mind, Devonia Devvvine started to percolate. I wonder why she has so many V’s in her last name. As for this photo, it’s one of the hundreds upon hundreds of shots I took of Chicago. I was intrigued by the reflected sunlight on a rather old building. I have quite a few shots of that, and I was taken by the presence of a rather boring advertisement in the foreground. Those strange LED billboards are popping up all over the place, and though this was a standard, vinyl billboard sort of deal, I figured that it would actually look good with a bit of the “video” treatment and so I rummaged through shots I’d made in the past and came across a pear. It’s the same pear that appeared earlier in my gallery, and so I decided to reuse it. I love the way postworking an image gives you such a wealth of images: lots of mileage from a single photograph. I suspect there will be more from Devonia Devvvine, but until then, I hope you enjoy this photographic composite of two photos and a tweak. As always, thank you for viewing, reading, and commenting, and I hope you’re all having a fantastic week.

You could change the lives of a lot of large ladies by making them feel they are bang on trend! Your challenge will be to make cellulite a must-have, together with flesh with the surface texture of a suet dumpling. 'Twill be a service to a huge proportion of the community!

This is such a beautiful shot. I just love such buildings behind the big poster. Does that poster mean, that now it is trent to have a Pear formed body again, like in the Rococo age? Count me in then ;-)

Nice picture of a great promo. Love the pear=bottom thingie. The blue-orange/gold contrast is very pleasing, making for a very well-timed shot.

This is too cool, Chip! I love the color vibration between the blue of the ad and the reds of the buildings. Great composition!

And here I thought the pear was really part of the ad! Great composition. Personally, I think the numerous v's are just an affectation. But what do I know?

Love this! What a great merging of two totally different images. Now you've got me thinking ... again ... which is such a Chip thing to do! :D This picture sucked me right back to Sunday, with the five of us meandering down city streets. I loved it that we got to see so much of the Loop area this time. Nicely done, my dear!

I think perhaps you are suggesting Devonia has a nice "pear!" Maybe the three vees stand for Va Va Voom!

I must have been off staring at street lamps or "El' rivets or something when you and Yvonne were bumping into DD. Glad you told me this is a two photo composite:) A great visual and a fun read. Love it!

I've never heard of that person; guess I must live in a cave or something. But I love the light on the building, what a great find!

Will the new look of fashion be specifically targeted to the pear shaped figure? Cool image!

Beautiful image and great read! I love the colors, light, and predominating rectangular shapes with just a touch of the pear (including some pear shaped lamps.) I like the rectangles on the building and the way they progress from a mixture of windows with some reflective surfaces and some determinately not so, to the rectangles formed by the trim of the building, to the ones that look more like vents of some kind on the far right. It's much more interesting than it would be if they were all the same, yet the rectangular theme goes across the image. I like the glowing white of the lamps against the black shadows, an inverse of the the dark pear on the light background. Excellent capture and postwork! I must say, I'm sorry there is no reality based Devonia Devvvine. I can really relate to her style. The shape anyway. I'm not too interested in looking like a 3-alarm fire, squeezed through anything.
