Brad Pitt and I share the exact same birthday (month, day, year) outside of that, our stories diverge considerably. Mr. Pitt went on to become an internationally famous superstar, while I have led the much more interesting life of the starving artist. I come from a long line of storytellers (whose gift for gab stretches back through the mists of time to our native Ireland) and professional malcontents who were seemingly born to create something in the arts, be it music, writing, sculpture, painting, or photography. I started writing at age 12 with a screenplay with my cousin Ryan about a planet where everyone looked like Elton John entitled "Don't I Know You?" More screenplays followed, several of which received epic Super-8 production with budgets that sometimes ran up to $10. A few even had sound!  More writing followed: songs, poems, short stories, numerous unfinished novels, etc.. Somewhere in there was an attempt at being a rock star...
Still living at home, at age 22, my father dropped an elderly Nikromatt 35-mm film camera into my lap, in the hopes that I would "make a go of it" as a photojournalist. That didn't happen, but I did develop an abiding love of photography that along with writing and archival work have been among the chief passions of my life. When it comes to my photography, I try to be as creative as possible while at the same time striving for a documentary/archival quality. The only set rules I adhere to, when it comes to making pictures are: 1.) Try not to make the picture blurry, and 2.) Don't drop the camera.

Tara got so many cool shots of that thing! That was a fun day and there were lots of cookies involved, which is always good. Renderosity Ninja Confabs should always have cookies and diet Coke involved! And good company! This turned out quite nicely. Now I wonder what I was looking at. This is a great shot. Tara and Bill look so happy, and your reflection looks just like you! Funny how that works.

How did you ever manage to keep all the other milling crowd at bay while you took this group photo? Nicely accomplished : )

That was SUCH a fun day! :) Well ... all the days were fun, actually. It's going to take me a million years to sift through all the pictures I took in Chicago. (Something just over 1200, in case you wondered.) I had such a great time with you and Corey and Bill every day, and with Yvonne on Sunday. Watching you and Bill together did my heart good. :* Love this pic of the four of us goofing around at Da Bean! 1200. Good grief!

Da Bean was simply amazing. I had seen the images you all posted from your 2009 expedition...but seeing it in person was 50 times better. Love the composition here. I notice you've got the one handed shot down to a science. I need both hands and Image Stabilization to keep my pics from being blurry. I had a great time this weekend and it was great to get to know you and Chip and Yvonne!!! I'll keep my eye out for errant autos of interest in the future...the oldies really stick out in this world of gumballs;-)
