Description
There was a few inquiries about what type of plant dominated the last image. My layman knowledge of this succulent has always called it an Ice plant or Sea Fig. So I decided to educate myself a little further and share some of those findings.
The family Aizoaceae or Ficoidaceae (fig-marigold or ice plant family) contains over 1900 species. Commonly known as stone plants. Native to southern Africa and introduced in countries like North America, Mexico, and South America in the early 1900's for stabilizing sands and soils, controlling erosion. As well it has been widely used as an ornamental landscape plant. It's flowers range from white, yellow, pink and deep magenta.
Was a bit disappointed to learn it is an invasive plant. Due to it being a creeper, sending roots out at every node touching the ground. As a succulent, it's able to absorb and store moisture making it drought resistant. Also a year round grower it can reach at least 50 meters in diameter. Flowering most of the year, each fruit produces hundreds of seeds. These traits allow it to form immense monospecific zones depriving other species of nutrients and water. Australia, the Mediterranean, and North America are the notable areas where this invasion is lowering biodiversity.
Today this plant is identified as Carpobrotus chilensis, hybridized with Carpobrotus edulis, this hybridization has taken place to such an extent here in North America that material of the second parent may no longer exist. This now commonplace Sea fig hybrid is often mistaken for it's close cousin Carpobrotus edulis, ice plant.
Now another article I read stated that the Sea fig and Ice plant succulents are hybridized throughout California's coast. The Carpobrotus edulis (Ice plant) bear the larger blossoms of yellow, white, and light pink flowers. Carpobrotus chilensis (Sea fig) has smaller flowers and range more towards magenta.
Still fighting off whatever it is I have, hope it's somewhat coherent. ;~)

A beautiful pic. I love that fence. We have this plant on our cliffs in Bournemouth, Dorset. It was planted to help stabilise our sandy soils, and it works well. It can grow on vertical surfaces and hangs down in brilliant swathes of colour when in flower. We call it the Hottentot Fig, ours is C.edulis, not a hybrid, and is more easily controlled at our latitude than in warmer climates. I hope you feel better very soon.

Magnificent vista. The seagull standing guard is a nice touch. We have iceplants on the sides of the freeways here in Los Angeles. They do work well at stabilizing the slopes.

I like this a lot! I like the irregular position of the planks on the fence with its lone gull, against the blue toned and out of focus background. Lovely colors and atmosphere. I hope you are better soon.
