Description

The elf woman, TatharĂ¯a:"I've come to give you all a warning! And YOU! Don't you DARE draw your sword at me...put it back NOW!" The elves have sent one of their toughest rangers to give the soldiers at the look-out tower a serious reprimand. Behind her with the horse, is her young apprentice Malina who's been allowed to come with her as a passenger. It's not considered a dangerous mission as such. The soldiers have been inside the forbidden zone where they killed and stole a deer, for eating. A battle is taking place far away, but they have been stationed here to keep watch, and they are bored. The nearest village is more than 10 km away, and they took the chance and went into the forest for a little variety on the menu. The elves, living deep in the forest with several village complexes, have a "sensitivity zone" with a 30 km radius. No trespassers will be accepted inside that without permission. TatharĂ¯a:"This is the second time we find you inside our forest. We will not have that, you know it. You're lucky it was Malina, my young apprentice, who saw you, and not me. I would have struck you with the Orne spell right away. Understood? Next time you WILL suffer the spell. You have seen them in the forest - only a few, but they are there: Men and the likes turned into wood. We are sure you don't want that to happen, so keep out! Just to inform you: You can't sneak in without our knowing. Our Tavor scouts are everywhere. And we will catch up on you!" The ranger guy confronting her is a visitor, on patrol and taking a break at the tower. The soldiers have invited him to stay for dinner: Roast deer. He is unfamiliar with the unwritten laws of the area, but he shouldn't try and fight her. He may or may not be able to beat her, before she can establish a spell situation, but the elves will retaliate immediately, and the soldiers know that. So, if he should go for a fight, they may actually shoot him, and not the elf ranger. They are terrified of the power of the elves. Now they may wonder what those scouts are, that she's taking about. But they will be discovered by them. The Tavor scouts are trained woodpeckers, that signal by drumming what and where any trespassers may be, and they are very alert... Vue, Poser and Photoshop. The wooden tower structure is wonderfully realistic. The placement of the plants in the foreground take advantage of the excellent and true to life lighting, which I think makes the scene. The blanched, almost misty element of the light is perfect for an autumnal daylight scene. What I frequently enjoy in your renders is the ability to identify each species of tree and plant. I have said this before but I admire your keen eye and the respect you have for the natural world. The way the sun backlights the characters and the depth of shadow in the foreground give the image an almost stereographic quality, like one of those old viewers fromthe 1970's. It is the small details in your work that I always enjoy; like the burnt out grass on the forest's verge, dry in the waning year because it is exposed to prevailing sun. Of course I do not hesitate in rating this image as a '5'.

Beautiful work. You can feel the humidity of the forest. Rich composition with gorgeous detailing and scene structure. And a well-written story to accompany the action. I like the idea of the Tavor Scouts.
