Description

Today we drove up to Cripple Creek, Colorado. You just know that song has been playing in my head all day! :D Here's a piece of information for you: The gold mines at Cripple Creek and nearby Victor produced more ounces of gold than the California and Alaska gold rushes combined. Seriously. COMBINED!!! That's just astonishing. I read it on a bronze plaque at a view point, so it must be true. They started mining gold there in 1890, stopped in the 1960s for a while (sorry ... I didn't get all the facts) and then started up again several years ago. It's now an active, open-pit operation.

She sends me.... Delightful framing, Tara! Love these old steam engines! An excellent photo, my friend! You've even managed to get nice detail in the shadows - in full sun, too!

Great image! I love the heavy iron castings in this old mine machinery. I spent a lot of time around Cripple Creek in Colorado years ago. There is also a Cripple Creek here in Tennessee; I used to pan for gold there. Nothing like the Colorado mine, but i did find about $200 in flakes and small nuggets there. Thanks for bringing those good memories back!

WOW! A gold mine! A wonderful almost abstract capture. So clean against the wonderfully blue sky.

Of course I love the excellent POV and cool info Hun. Yeah - I sit on a "hollow" city after the goldrush that started Johannesburg.... :(

Seems like it must have been a wonderful adventure! Excellent lighting, Tara! Such a massive structure, and the POV is wonderful, depicting only so much as to just imagine the entire stature of this! I like the colours as well, and the way we can see through the "holes" to the other end of this lovely place!

I never knew that, I always thought the west coast mining was the biggest producer in this country. Go figure. Great capture of this slightly rusty but clearly well-used old piece of machinery. That one little line of white cloud is marvelous!
