Well, personally I don't mind the blown out feathers. The whole thing has a nice natural feel about it to me. And you could have lost some of the details in those shadows in the process of stopping down....maybe just a third of a stop would have done it..........but I reckon you did a fine job.

Oh, this is marvelous! I happen to love vultures; they always look so serious and so intent on something. Every time I see a vulture's face, I think of someone contemplating very important things. Ah, vultures...I'll always like them. There's something elegant about them. I especially love the colors in this, especially this creature's pin-sharp eye and feather details. This is marvelous work.
