Hi Folks! It's that time of year again, when I publish a series of 3D cartoon illustrations that shed a Jack o' Lantern's light on the yuletide classic, The Twelve Days of Christmas. This year's countdown presents another new theme, along with new images and more succinct commentary-- and #1 is not what you think it is!! Here's my suggestion for #13-- what's yours? #13: Mac the Knife Bobby Darin, 1959 Same Set Playlist: Maxwell's Silver Hammer - The Beatles Amos Moses - Jerry Reed Stagger Lee - Lloyd Price "On a sidewalk, blue Sunday mornin' Lies a body oozin' life Someone's sneakin' round a corner Could that someone be Mack the Knife?" The signature song from Threepenny Opera (Weil and Brecht) has also been covered by such legends as Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, and Sting. But catchy melodies and witty lyrics can't hide the fact that the antihero in each of these songs is a certifiable psychopath. "Stagger Lee" is based on a real story: the fatal argument between Stagger Lee Shelton and William Lyons. According to legend, Lyons pleads for his life so that his family won't become destitute. Shelton famously responds, "Don't worry, Billy. God will take care of your children. And I'll take care of your wife." (BTW: "Amos Moses" was released by Jerry Reed on today's date: October 19, 1970.)
